I'm Katherine Robertson-Pilling. I've made my living as a professional writer for more than 30 years. I've helped clients--from Hollywood to Monte Carlo--create award-winning projects: documentary films and TV programs, websites, books and more. I've always been creative, though I didn't always have the courage to claim it.
Over the years, as I came to know more about myself emotionally and spiritually, I began to understand the twists and turns of my life in the context of the archetypal Hero's Journey. And I've spent the past 10 years developing a map of that journey--a compass for living--that I call The Wheel of Creativity.
Today I use the Wheel to help people create lives they love from the lives they have. My clients have been asking me to put the 12 stations and principles of the Wheel of Creativity into a book. And finally that book is complete: "The Wheel of Creativity: Taking Your Place in the Adventure of Life."
No matter what you do for a living, your life is a creative process. Whatever result you want to produce--whether it's a book, a business or a healthy relationship--realizing it is a journey. The Wheel of Creativity shows you where you are on that journey and empowers you to succeed.
Robertson-Pilling invites us to examine the Wheel in all its detail and find where we think we are on it. (It's split into 4 quadrants, each of which has a number of provocative words attached to it, like "Panic" "Fertility" "Relax" and "Leave home.") The two that caught my eye were "Restlessness" and "Tell the truth." And there before me, on The Wheel, I could see the journey ahead.
I've also witnessed Katherine as a speaker and mentor at the Launch in Chicago, Illinois. To see her gently guide two of her participants around The Wheel, listening deeply and responding with so much understanding and care -- it was a joy to behold. Overall, the evening reminded me of something another great mentor once said. Josephine Forsberg, improv teacher extraordinaire, always reminded her Players Workshop of Second City students that we are always creating, always improvising, every day, every minute. No matter what we do for work. What matters is WHAT we are creating, whether it's a garden, a legal brief, a poem or a resume. Greater awareness of what I'm doing improves my chances at creating something of greater use, greater beauty, greater good.Reading this book will definitely make you feel good. Following its instructions will definitely make you do good.
